Induction Melting

Five induction furnaces on site give accurate, repeatable results — a safer and more cost-effective way to melt precious metal bearing materials.

How the Melt Works

An induction furnace uses a high-temperature electric current to melt metal with an added fluxing agent such as borax, which assists the metal to become molten and homogenous. Once molten, the metal is stirred so the alloying conditions are fully mixed into the melt.

Sampling can be done using glass vacuum pin tubes prior to the pour, or by drilling the bar after it has cooled. Material type determines the method.

  • 25 kW10 lb capacity — smaller lots and platinum group metals

Sampled in the Molten State

The molten metal can be sampled using a vacuum pin tube in the molten state, or drilled after the dore has been poured and the slag removed.
